After graduating from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science/The Chicago Medical School, Dr. Bhargava Gannavarapu went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, Irvine. He followed by earning his Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. He then went on to complete a 4th-year fellowship in advanced endoscopy at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. Before starting his practice in San Jose, Dr. Gannavarapu was on staff at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, IL, as an Interventional Gastroenterologist.

Dr. Gannavarapu specializes in therapeutic interventional endoscopy, focusing on minimally invasive endoscopic procedures, including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). His clinical focus is on the diagnosis and management of pancreaticobiliary diseases, including biliary obstruction, pancreatitis, and pancreatic cancer. Other areas of focus include endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) for early gastrointestinal malignancy, including large colon polyps; management of Barrett’s Esophagus, including radiofrequency ablation; staging and palliation of gastrointestinal malignancy; and bariatric endoscopy.

Dr. Gannavarapu’s goal is to provide quality compassionate care to his patients by integrating the most up-to-date medical information along with state of the art medical technology. He practices gastroenterology based on proven, evidence-based medicine while executing his technical skills and clinical judgment to provide the best clinical outcome possible for his patients. Along with practicing the cognitive aspects of medicine, Dr. Gannavarapu strongly believes in patient engagement and communicating with his patients so that they can better understand their ailments and issues while incorporating the patient’s wishes into their treatment plan.

Doctor Gannavarapu is listening to patient concerns and able to answer questions about symptoms and treatment plan. He is patient and diligent during his visits and able to provide adequate information about the condition, causes and treatment. He offers multiple options and considers potential side effects that are important to consider. I felt I am being taken care of and not just a cost center for billing of services. He prescribed a medication for remediating my immediate symptoms while two other doctors just measured my vitals, requested lab results and left me in pain.Overall, I am happy with the care and attention I have received and recommend doctor Gannavarapu. Dr. G is very good with patients.He is respectful, and yet stays on point. When he sees a patient is in pain, he doesn’t push them. He tries to keep them comfortable.His staff takes good care to get Pre-meeting information without pushing patient discomfort. Their friendly but not forceful. When you’re in pain, the last thing you wanna deal with is a lot of nonsensical questions even if they are important. The staff gets it and deals with it. They’re all in the same team to help you!

Dr Gannavarapu is a wonderful doctor. I went in with a lot of fear and uncertainty about my stomach issues, not really knowing what to expect. Let me start by saying that ever since I graduated university and no longer have private insurance, I’ve struggled to find good doctors who give quality care, especially now that I am on Medi-Cal (govt issued insurance for low-income individuals/families). I’ve lived briefly in Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam and have worked with doctors in those countries yet some of the most unpleasant medical experiences I’ve had are with doctors in the U.S. who treated me under Medi-Cal. That said, I was so relieved when I met Dr. Gannavarapu. He is an exceptional doctor with great bedside manner who genuinely cares about his patients (and doesn’t discriminate against those with Medi-Cal). Here’s what I appreciate about Dr. G: -TAKES YOUR CONCERNS SERIOUSLY -Gives thorough explanations to diagnoses/conditions so that you’re not left confused or questioning what is happening -Is direct with his opinion and never misleads you. He is the type to admit “I’m not sure why___ because ____” instead of giving some BS answer like “you’ll feel better in a couple months” -Takes medical procedures very seriously (doctors make $$ off these procedures and oftentimes will persuade you to get one you don’t actually need. Not Dr. G. He understands the seriousness of procedures and did not try to profit off me when he could have easily done so) -Responds quickly to messages you send on online patient portal Dr. Gannavarapu is one of the few practitioners who I trust. I had a great experience working with him and would recommend him in a heartbeat!
